~ adv sentence adverb 1 used to say that someone does something or that something happens in spite of a problem  (He said he didn't know much about computers but that he'd try and help us anyway.) 2 used when you are changing the subject of a conversation or returning to a previous subject  (Anyway, what was I saying?) 3 used when you want to finish saying something or continue without all the details  (Anyway, I must be going now. | Anyway, after three months at the clinic, she'd made a full recovery.) 4 used to add some extra information, an opinion or a question to something that you have just said  (Sam didn't get the job; but he's not worried because it didn't pay well anyway. | It was nice of you to offer anyway.) 5 used to find out the real reason for something  (So anyway, what were you doing in the park at two in the morning? | Why did he visit Alan anyway?)
